About Course

STCW Code V/1-1 is related to the services onboard oil and chemical tankers and put focus on the relation between human attitude and a safe and efficient operation of tankers.

This code is applicable to all masters, officers and key ratings onboard the chemical and oil tankers.

It covers basic safety and pollution prevention, layouts of different types of tankers, types of cargo, their hazards and their handling equipment, general operational sequence and is the mandatory minimum requirements prescribed by the STCW Convention.

Training

  • demonstrate the competence to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in column 1 of table A-V/1-1-1; and
  • the required standard of competence in accordance with the methods for demonstrating competence and the criteria for evaluating competence tabulated in columns 3 and 4 of table A-V/1-1-1.
  • As much use as possible should be made of shipboard operation and equipment manuals, films and suitable visual aids, and the opportunity should be taken to introduce discussion of the part to be played by the safety organization on board ship and the role of safety officers and safety committees.
  • Officers and ratings assigned specific duties and responsibilities related to cargo or cargo equipment on oil or chemical tankers shall hold a certificate in basic training for oil and chemical tanker cargo operations.
